SnoBreak 2009 Events

Turkey Curling is sponsored by the Goose Bay Curling Club. This is truly a family evening with lots of fun for adults and children. Experienced curlers will show you the rules of the rink and you can have a bit of fun with a match of "turkey curling" too! Yes - you get to keep the turkey! Other games and refreshments are provided. There is a small fee, but there will be lots of fun.

The Canadian Cancer Society has kindly provided samples of SPF cancer protection for many of the outdoor events. Watch for their booth set up at various events during the week. Remember that you must protect yourself from winter sun rays as well as summer ones!
HOCKEY
*NEW* 3 ON 3 Outdoor Shinny Hockey Tournament at Husky Park. This new event will be held outdoors in a rink created by the arena staff with the assistance of the Volunteer Firemen. Details available from Kevin Lane,Town Recreation Director, at the arena.
The Trapper's Cup (a friendly competition between North West River and Goose Bay) held at the EJ Broomfield Memorial Arena. This event is hosted by the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Extreme Minor Hockey and the Snow Flake Figure Skating Club.

Figure Skating demonstrations will be provided by the Snowflake Skating Club before the Trapper's Cup Hockey Challenge.
Family Skate and Rock and Skate will be held during the week for kids and adults alike. Admission to the Rock and Skate is $1.25 with lots of fun things to do.

SnoBreak FINALE: At Maxwell's Sports Bar. Starting at 9:00 pm. Live entertainment provided by Jacinda Beals Band followed by the Northernaires and finally Smokehouse ! Enjoy great music and entertainment during the wrap-up of SnoBreak2009 at Maxwell's Sports Bar. Prize draws and the Button draw for Trip for Two on PAL/Innu Mikun Airlines. Heritage Trail Ride
Join us for a snowmobile ride to the abandoned community of Mulligan on the north side of Lake Melville. Enjoy a boil-up meal when you get to this former village. This trail ride is possible because of the kind assistance of the Department of Natural Resources. More info HERE. Pre-registration at the SnoBreak office is mandatory for this event.

*NEW* K9 Talent and Glamour Show
K9 Talent and Glamour Pet Show at Kinsmen Centre. Bring your beloved pet dressed in their best or ready for tricks in this brand new event! Talent, Labrador Spirit and Costume/Glamour are the contest events. This event sponsored by "PAWS" and the Valley Veterinary Clinic with proceeds going to the local SPCA. FAMILY FUN
The Family Toboggan Party is always lots of fun. Held at Johnny Hill (off Cabot Crescent), there will be games and free hot chocolate and hotdogs for everyone. This event is organized by the Community Youth Network.

Bring the family and try your hand at ice carving. We supply the ice and tools. Master Carver Steve Watson will be on hand to show you the tricks of this art. Ice sculptures will be located on the arena grounds.
Christian Youth Camp Family Fun Day- Still Going Ahead Indoors if inclement weather. for kids of all ages- go for a Snow shoe walk, go sliding or enjoy a snowmobile ride! Complimentary hot chocolate and hot dogs will be provided.

Family Geocache Event
Geocaching is like treasure hunting with a GPS, and we have included this very new sport in the SnoBreak Schedule for the second year. We have designed a family friendly multi-part cache with a very special SnoBreak prize for first finder. For those who arrive later, there is a final coordinate for a special SnoBreak prize draw. Details on the first coordinates will be revealed during SnoBreak HERE. .

Big Land Challenge Dog Team Race
The 4th annual dog race will be held at Terrington Basin at the main dock . We understand you may be able to purchase a night in an igloo before the event. You can find more information at More info HERE.
