Welcome to Central Labrador!
This site includes information for tourists about services in the communities of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, North West River, Mud Lake and Sheshatshiu, all located in the heart of Labrador, the area we call the Lake Melville Region.

Our Visitor Information Centre (VIC) is open year round Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm with summer season hours Monday - Friday from 8:30 am - 8:00 pm, weekends 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. We offer:
  • information, brochures and maps
  • complimentary access to computers and WIFI Internet,
  • a public washroom,
  • and a garden for you to relax in after the long drive.

*The TLH is OPEN*
The Trans Labrador Highway is now fully paved on route 500 between Labrador City and Happy Valley-Goose Bay. Paving on route 510 between Happy Valley-Goose Bay and Red Bay has also begin this summer.

Travellers can drive to Central Labrador either via ferry from Newfoundland at the St. Barbe-Blanc Sablon crossing (year round depending on ice conditions), or by taking Route 389 from Baie Comeau in Quebec (year round).

To ensure your safety, the provincial government has placed satellite phones for you to borrow on the wilderness drive. Residents of the province will need to show their driver's license, and non-residents will need a valid credit card to borrow a phone.

Satellite phones can now be picked up at the following locations:

• Wabush Hotel in Wabush;
• Height of the Land Hotel in Churchill Falls;
• Hotel North Two and Royal Inn and Suites in Happy Valley-Goose Bay;
• Alexis Hotel in Port Hope Simpson;
• Town Office in Charlottetown;
• Riverlodge Hotel in Mary's Harbour; and,
• Northern Light Inn in L'Anse au Clair.
